A Little Bit of Everything

These are some of my 6th grade students, I have nine total in this class and they are just a wonderful group of kids! I am so thankful for them as they are the ones who impact my experience in the school the most. I teach them English as they teach me Swahili. They are definitely a goofy group of kids and I am blessed to teach them, but also to learn from them.

This is a picture of the classroom that I work in, here the students have their own classroom and the teachers change after each 40 minute period. The teachers are often in the teachers lounge when they are not teaching, because it really is the only space that the teacher is offered for themselves. In America it is different because it’s often the case that the teacher has their own classroom and the students move from room to room. I think it is different at this school because there is only one class per grade level. I think I would prefer having my own classroom..

At school, I taught lots of the students “Boom, Snap, Clap,” which I remember learning as a child at camp. They love it, and they are learning words in English and how to pronounce them. They are also learning that it takes patience and practice to get better. Some of the students began to master it and wanted me to film them. These students are not in my class, but since the school is small enough it is easy to make relationships with all of them.

Typical lunch that I have here at school, I mean typical as in I eat it almost everyday. Ugali is common here and at school they mix it with beans and spinach. It’s not bad, but I also miss just having a simple turkey wrap for lunch.

I have visited several beaches in my last couple of weeks here. I have gotten to see many sunsets in the last couple of weeks I truly feel blessed. I am so lucky to live so close to the Indianocean to be able to visit it 3-4 times a week. The view is gorgeous!

These goofy girls are always coming to visit me everyday. They love to talk and play with my hair.
